Health Promotion Newsletter Issue No.8

29 Jun

Just a few days before Pride 2012, I hope this finds you all well. I want to wish you all a happy and safe Pride. We should all be proud of our community and this is our opportunity to express it!

The Pre-Pride Pink party that was held on Sunday June 26, 2012 was a great success! There was a lot of great summer food and networking. I especially want to thank the clients who became volunteers on the grill and the clean-up committee – you all did a fantastic job!

By the middle of July I will be sending out a survey asking for your feedback on the Health Promotion workshops as well as exploring suggestions for future programs. I would very much appreciate if you all take five minutes and let me know your opinions. It will help us strengthen the program with your input.

Many of you attended the Zen Shiatsu Workshop during the past winter. I have some good news for those who like to see this service in place at our agency. Zen shiatsu will be coming to ACAS on a monthly basis starting end of September. Just to refresh what Zen shiatsu can benefit your health, please see below for more information. Please keep watch on our upcoming newsletter for the actual starting date.

ABOUT ZEN SHIATSU

Zen Shiatsu is a profound Eastern healing art delivered in a meditative Zen “pure mind” state. With its roots in Traditional Asian Medicine dating back thousands of years, Zen Shiatsu uses the same meridians (energy channels) of the body as acupuncture. However, instead of using needles, pressure of varying degrees is applied along the meridians, using the thumbs, palms, forearms, knees, elbows and feet.

Illness occurs as a result of Ki (life-force / energy) stagnation and imbalance. Imbalances can be caused by both external and internal factors. The Zen Shiatsu therapist works in a meditative state to establish an energetic connection between therapist and patient; who work together to heal the body. Treatment gradually brings us into contact, deep awareness and ownership of our own innate healing power.

Over time and a course of therapy, Zen Shiatsu returns the body to its natural state of balance and optimum health. Improved states of well-being replace old energy and emotional patterns and become “the norm”. Rebalanced Ki produces a strengthened immune system, feelings of peace, deep relaxation, constitutional integrity, renewed life-force and vitality.

Zen Shiatsu is used to address a variety of health issues including:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Stress / Tension
  • Digestive Problems
  • Anger / Worry / Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Headache / Migraine
  • Insomnia
  • Tiredness
  • Stiffness & Reduced Mobility
  • Emotional / Mood Disorders
  • Low Energy
  • Post Traumatic Stress
